JYESHTHA ADHIK MAAS AMAVASYA - JUNE 14 EVENING TO JUNE 15 MORNING 2026
Tithi: Starts June 14, 12:20 PM - Ends June 15, 8:24 AM (IST)
THE MOST POWERFUL AMAVASYA OF 2026 IS HERE
This is not an ordinary new moon. This Amavasya falls during Adhik Maas, the rare extra lunar month dedicated to Lord Vishnu, which makes it one of the most spiritually charged nights of the entire year. The sky goes completely dark, the mind goes completely still, and the universe opens a window for deep release and renewal.
If you have been feeling heavy, stuck, anxious or disconnected, this is the night to let it all go.
WHAT MAKES THIS AMAVASYA SPECIAL
Because it falls in Jyeshtha Adhik Maas, this new moon carries the energy of Lord Vishnu, the preserver and protector. Vedic texts describe Adhik Maas as a time meant for inner reflection, discipline and spiritual upliftment rather than outward celebration. Combined with the natural pull of Amavasya, which governs the subconscious mind, intuition and ancestral connection, this creates a rare double layered opportunity for transformation.
WHAT TO DO ON AMAVASYA NIGHT (JUNE 14 EVENING)
1. Light a diya for your ancestors
As darkness falls on the evening of June 14, light a simple oil lamp facing south and offer a quiet prayer to your ancestors. Vedic scriptures describe Amavasya as the night when the veil between realms is thinnest and departed souls draw closer to the earthly plane. A few minutes of remembrance brings their blessings into your home.
2. Practice silence (Maun Vrat)
Even thirty minutes of silence on Amavasya night calms the nervous system and sharpens intuition. Turn off your phone, sit in a quiet corner, and simply breathe.
3. Chant the Vishnu Sahasranama or Om Namo Narayanaya
Since this Amavasya falls in Adhik Maas, chanting Vishnu mantras tonight is considered especially fruitful. Even 11 rounds of Om Namo Narayanaya before bed can shift your energy.
4. Write down what you want to release
On a piece of paper, write down everything you want to let go of, old grudges, fears, limiting beliefs, toxic habits. Burn it as a symbolic release.
5. Avoid starting new major projects tonight
Traditional Vedic guidance suggests Amavasya night itself is better suited for closure, reflection and rest rather than fresh beginnings. Save the new starts for the next morning.
WHAT TO DO ON AMAVASYA MORNING (JUNE 15, BEFORE 8 30 AM)
1. Wake up during Brahma Muhurta
Try to rise before sunrise, around 4 to 5 am. This is considered the most sattvic time of the day, ideal for meditation, prayer and setting intentions.
2. Take a purifying bath
A bath with a pinch of salt or a few drops of Ganga water (or simply with full presence and gratitude) is believed to cleanse accumulated negative energy from the previous lunar cycle.
3. Perform Pitru Tarpan if possible
If your family follows ancestral rites, the hours before 8 30 am on June 15 are considered auspicious for offering water, sesame seeds and prayers to ancestors. Even a simple gesture, lighting incense and saying their names with gratitude, carries meaning.
4. Donate before the tithi ends
Vedic tradition holds that charity performed on Amavasya multiplies in spiritual merit. Donate food, clothes, or money to someone in need before 8 30 am. Black sesame seeds, mustard oil, and food grains are traditionally considered powerful donations on this day.
5. Set your intentions for the new lunar cycle
Once the Amavasya tithi ends at 8 24 am on June 15, the moon begins to wax again. This is the perfect window to write down your goals, intentions and prayers for the coming month. What you plant now has the chance to grow with the moon.
6. Recite a simple gratitude mantra
Close your morning practice by repeating Thank you Thank you Thank you Universe with full presence. Let gratitude be the seed you plant as this sacred tithi closes.
Amavasya is often misunderstood as a day of fear or inauspiciousness, but the scriptures tell a different story. The darkest night carries the seed of the brightest dawn. This Jyeshtha Adhik Maas Amavasya, blessed by Lord Vishnu's energy, is an invitation to release what no longer serves you and step into the new lunar cycle lighter, calmer and more aligned.
