Shri Dhan Laxmi Stotram is one of the most powerful prayers to Goddess Lakshmi for wealth, prosperity and removal of poverty. Lord Shiva himself narrated this stotram to Goddess Parvati. Let us read each verse with its meaning in English.
॥ Shri Dhan Laxmi Stotram ॥
BACKGROUND (Dhanada Uvaca)
Sanskrit:
देवी देवमुपागम्य नीलकण्ठं मम प्रियम् ।
कृपया पार्वती प्राह शङ्करं करुणाकरम् ॥ १ ॥
Transliteration:
Devi devamupagamya nilakantham mama priyam
Krupaya parvati praha shankaram karunaakaram
Meaning:
Goddess Parvati, filled with compassion, approached her beloved Lord Nilakantha (Shiva) and spoke to Him, the ocean of mercy.
Verse 2 (Devi Uvaca):
Sanskrit:
ब्रूहि वल्लभ साधूनां दरिद्राणां कुटुम्बिनाम् ।
दरिद्र दलनोपायमञ्जसैव धनप्रदम् ॥ २ ॥
Transliteration:
Bruhi vallabha sadhunaam daridranaam kutumbinam
Daridra dalan opayam anjasaiva dhana pradam
Meaning:
O my beloved Lord, please tell me the means by which poor householders and good souls can destroy their poverty and attain wealth quickly.
Verse 3 (Shiva Uvaca):

पूजयन् पार्वतीवाक्यमिदमाह महेश्वरः ।
उचितं जगदम्बासि तव भूतानुकम्पया ॥ ३ ॥
Transliteration:
Poojayen parvatee vakyam idamaaha maheshwarah
Uchitam jagadambaasi tava bhootaanukampaya
Meaning:
Hearing the words of Parvati, Lord Maheshwara was pleased and said: O Mother of the Universe, it is indeed proper of you to ask this out of compassion for all living beings.
Verse 4:
Sanskrit:
स सीतं सानुजं रामं साञ्जनेयं सहानुगम् ।
प्रणम्य परमानन्दं वक्ष्येऽहं स्तोत्रमुत्तमम् ॥ ४ ॥
Transliteration:
Sa sitam saanujam raamam saanjaneyam sahaanugam
Pranamya paramaanandam vakshye aham stotram uttamam
Meaning:
Bowing to Lord Rama along with Sita, His brother Lakshmana, Hanuman and all His companions, and to the Supreme Bliss, I shall now recite this excellent stotram.
Verse 5:
Sanskrit:
धनदं श्रद्धानानां सद्यः सुलभकारकम् ।
योगक्षेमकरं सत्यं सत्यमेव वचो मम ॥ ५ ॥
Transliteration:
Dhanadam shraddhaanam sadyah sulabha karakam
Yoga kshemakaram satyam satyameva vacho mama
Meaning:
This stotram grants wealth to those who chant it with faith. It brings prosperity and security immediately. My words are the absolute truth.
Verse 6:
Sanskrit:
पठन्तः पाठयन्तोऽपि ब्रह्मणैरास्तिकोत्तमैः ।
धनलाभो भवेदाशु नाशमेति दरिद्रता ॥ ६ ॥
Transliteration:
Patantah paathayanto api brahmanair aastikottamaih
Dhanalaabho bhaved aashu naashameti daridrata
Meaning:
Those who recite it themselves or make others recite it, especially noble Brahmins and believers, will quickly gain wealth and their poverty will be destroyed.
Verse 7:
Sanskrit:
भूभवांशभवां भूत्यै भक्तिकल्पलतां शुभाम् ।
प्रार्थयत्तां यथाकामं कामधेनुस्वरूपिणीम् ॥ ७ ॥
Transliteration:
Bhoobhavaamsha bhavaam bhootyai bhakti kalpalataam shubhaam
Prarthayattaam yathaakaamam kaamadhenu swaroopineem
Meaning:
She who was born on earth as a part of the divine, who is the auspicious wish-fulfilling creeper of devotion, who is like the Kaamadhenu (wish-granting cow), pray to Her for all your desires.
Verse 8:

धनदे धनदे देवि दानशीले दयाकरे ।
त्वं प्रसीद महेशानि! यदर्थं प्रार्थयाम्यहम् ॥ ८ ॥
Transliteration:
Dhanade dhanade devi daanasheele dayaakare
Tvam praseed maheshaani yadartham praarthayaamyaham
Meaning:
O Dhanade (giver of wealth), O Goddess, O generous one, O compassionate one, O wife of Mahesha, please be pleased and grant me what I am praying for.
Verse 9:

धराऽमरप्रिये पुण्य��� धन्ये धनदपूजिते ।
सुधनं र्धामिके देहि यजमानाय सत्वरम् ॥ ९ ॥
Transliteration:
Dharaamar priye punye dhanya dhanadapoojite
Sudhanam dhaarmike dehi yajmaanaaya satvaram
Meaning:
O beloved of the gods on earth, O pure and blessed one, O one who is worshipped by Kubera himself, please grant righteous wealth to the devotee quickly.
Verse 10:
Sanskrit:
रम्ये रुद्रप्रिये रूपे रामरूपे रतिप्रिये ।
शिखीसखमनोमूर्त्ते प्रसीद प्रणते मयि ॥ १० ॥
Transliteration:
Ramye rudrapriye roope raamaroope ratipriye
Shikhisakha manomoortte praseed pranate mayi
Meaning:
O beautiful one, O beloved of Rudra, O one who is beautiful as Rama, O one dear to love, O one who exists in the minds of Shiva's companions, please be pleased with me who bows before You.
Verse 11:

आरक्त-चरणाम्भोजे सिद्धि-सर्वार्थदायिके ।
दिव्याम्बरधरे दिव्ये दिव्यमाल्यानुशोभिते ॥ ११ ॥
Transliteration:
Arakta charanaammbhoje siddhi sarvaarthadaayike
Divyaambara dhare divye divyamaalyaanushobhite
Meaning:
O one with reddish lotus feet, O granter of all accomplishments and goals, O one wearing divine garments and adorned with divine garlands.
Verse 12:
Sanskrit:
समस्तगुणसम्पन्ने सर्वलक्षणलक्षिते ।
शरच्चन्द्रमुखे नीले नील नीरज लोचने ॥ १२ ॥
Transliteration:
Samastaguna sampanne sarvalakshana lakshite
Sharachcandra mukhe neele neela neeraja lochane
Meaning:
O one endowed with all virtues, O one marked with all auspicious signs, O one with a face like the autumn moon, with blue lotus eyes shining beautifully.
Verse 13:
Sanskrit:
चञ्चरीक चमू चारु श्रीहार कुटिलालके ।
मत्ते भगवती मातः कलकण्ठरवामृते ॥ १३ ॥
Transliteration:
Chanchareeka chamoo chaaru shrihaara kutilaalake
Matte bhagavati maatah kalakantha ravaaamrute
Meaning:
O one with charming curly hair adorned with beautiful garlands, O intoxicated Bhagavati Mother, whose voice is as sweet and nectarean as a melodious bird.
Verse 14:
Sanskrit:
हासाऽवलोकनैर्दिव्यैर्भक्तचिन्तापहारिके ।
रूप लावण्य तारूण्य कारूण्य गुणभाजने ॥ १४ ॥
Transliteration:
Haasaavalochanair divyair bhaktachintaapaharike
Roopa laavanya taaronya kaaronya guna bhaajane
Meaning:
O one who removes the worries of devotees with Your divine smile and glance, O one full of beauty, grace, youth and compassion.
Verse 15:
Sanskrit:
क्वणत्कङ्कणमञ्जीरे लसल्लीलाकराम्बुजे ।
रुद्रप्रकाशिते तत्त्वे धर्माधरे धरालये ॥ १५ ॥
Transliteration:
Kvanatkankana manjire lasalleela karambuje
Rudraprakaashite tattve dharmaadhare dharaalaye
Meaning:
O one adorned with tinkling bangles and anklets, with playfully moving lotus hands, O one whose divine essence was revealed by Rudra, O upholder of dharma and the earth.
Verse 16:
Sanskrit:
प्रयच्छ यजमानाय धनं धर्मेकसाधनम् ।
मातस्त्वं मेऽविलम���बेन दिशस्व जगदम्बिके ॥ १६ ॥
Transliteration:
Prayaccha yajmaanaaya dhanam dharmaika saadhanam
Maatastvam me avilambaen dishasva jagadambike
Meaning:
O Mother of the Universe, please grant the devotee wealth which is the only means of performing righteous acts. O Mother, bestow it upon me without delay.
Verse 17:
Sanskrit:
कृपया करुरागारे प्रार्थितं कुरु मे शुभे ।
वसुधे वसुधारूपे वसु वासव वन्दिते ॥ १७ ॥
Transliteration:
Krupaya karuragaare praarthitam kuru me shubhe
Vasudhe vasudhaaroope vasu vaasava vandite
Meaning:
O auspicious one, O abode of compassion, please fulfill my prayer. O earth goddess, O one who is the form of wealth, O one worshipped by Indra and the gods.
Verse 18:
Sanskrit:
धनदे यजमानाय वरदे वरदा भव ।
ब्रह्मण्यैर्ब्राह्मणैः पूज्ये पार्वतीशिवशङ्करे ॥ १८ ॥
Transliteration:
Dhanade yajmaanaaya varade varadaa bhava
Brahmannyair brahmannaih poojye paarvatee shiva shankare
Meaning:
O Dhanade, O boon granter, please become the giver of boons to this devotee. O one worshipped by Brahmins, O Parvati, Shiva and Shankara in one form.
Verse 19:
Sanskrit:
स्तोत्रं दरिद्रताव्याधिशमनं सुधनप्रदम् ।
श्रीकरे शङ्करे श्रीदे प्रसीद मयिकिङ्करे ॥ १९ ॥
Transliteration:
Stotram daridrataa vyaadhi shamanam sudhana pradam
Shrikare shankare shreede praseed mayi kinkare
Meaning:
This stotram cures the disease of poverty and grants pure wealth. O Shrikare (bringer of prosperity), O Shankare, O Shreedevi, be pleased with me, your humble servant.
Verse 20 (Phal Stuti):
Sanskrit:
पार्वतीशप्रसादेन सुरेश किङ्करेरितम् ।
श्रद्धया ये पठिष्यन्ति पाठयिष्यन्ति भक्तितः ॥ २० ॥
सहस्रमयुतं लक्षं धनलाभो भवेद् ध्रुवम् ।
धनदाय नमस्तुभ्यं निधिपद्माधिपाय च ।
भवन्तु त्वत्प्रसादान्मे धन-धान्य��दिसम्पदः ॥
Transliteration:
Paarvateesha prasaadena suresha kinkare ritam
Shraddhaya ye pathishyanti paathayishyanti bhaktitah
Sahasramayutam laksham dhanalabho bhaved dhruvam
Dhanaadaya namastu tubhyam nidhipadmaadhipaaya cha
Bhavantu tvatprasaadaan me dhana dhaanyaadi sampadah
Meaning (Phal Stuti):
By the grace of Lord Shiva and narrated by the devotee of Indra, those who recite this stotram with faith and devotion, or those who make others recite it with devotion, will certainly gain thousands, ten-thousands and lakhs in wealth. Salutations to Dhanada (Kubera), the lord of treasures and the lotus. By your grace, may I be blessed with wealth, grains and all kinds of prosperity.
